The Duo by Giorgio de Chirico

Of all the pieces of art on view at the MOMA in NYC, this is the one that spoke to me the loudest. There were many pieces that are world famous and that I’ve only seen in books. There were some by my favorite artists and some that I’d never laid eyes on before that are now included in my personal favorites. But like I said, this one spoke to me the loudest.

After I got home, I had to do some real digging to get a copy of it for my own. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere online that you can purchase a copy of it, unless you are interested in spending a few hundred dollars. That was not in the budget. So I scanned Amazon.com for books that included his art in them. I ordered two and hoped for the best.

The first one that arrived was really interesting and contained lots of info about the artist. It also contained pieces that he’d done that I hadn’t seen before. Unfortunately, “the duo” wasn’t among them. Then about a week later the second one arrived. Breathlessly I flipped through the pages hoping, hoping, hoping…..and ta-da! There it was. YAYYYY!!! Why is it that we are driven to POSSESS that which has the capacity to move us? I found a digital copy online and that is now my screen backdrop. I never get tired of looking at it.

Now maybe you took one look at it and recoiled in horror. I don’t know. Art effects everyone differently.

When I look at it, I see myself
